End-user devices market for Broadband Powerline Communications set to explode, says research report
Market to be driven by Home Networking, says report from Telecom Trends International
Technology competes against Wi-Fi and HomePNA
Falls Church, Virginia ─ Use of broadband powerline communications devices for end-user applications is on the verge of exploding, says a market research study released by Telecom Trends International.
The report, “Broadband Powerline Communications: Ready for Take-Off” says devices for Broadband Powerline for indoor applications, or BPL-Indoor, will offer very high end-user speeds, making the technology ideal for transmitting voice, video, and data within premises.
BPL-Indoor derives its demand from home networking, said Naqi A. Jaffery, President, Telecom Trends International, Inc. With BPL-Indoor, every power outlet a home becomes part of a high-speed data network, he said, without the need to install new wiring.
The technology offers several advantages over competing technologies such as Wi-Fi and phone lines, and this will facilitate its rapid adoption, Mr. Jaffery said. Eventually, BPL-Indoor will become one of the mainstream home networking technologies, he said.
According to the report, the sale of end-user devices generated $78.8 million dollars worldwide in 2004. The revenue will almost double in 2005, and grow to $5.3 billion worldwide by 2011, the study said.
Mr. Jaffery said that the concept of a networked home is moving beyond distributing the high-speed Internet signal in the home. The technology will not only provide interconnection to telephones and computers but to all manner of voice, audio, video, and data devices, he said.
The report covers developments in Broadband Powerline Communications globally. Published by Telecom Trends International, the report is based on authoritative analysis by experts who are well versed in market and technology developments in Broadband Powerline Communications. The report also covers developments in BPL-Access for high-speed Internet access.
